the more things change
- the more they stay the same, as is pointedly illustrated in Pogo Possum 14, Oct-Dec 1953. Only now the emperor would be begging the president to please go home and minister to his flock of poor suffering drowning homeless jobless carless foodless uninsured disenfranchised sheep, but that ol' president would be jabbin' that ol' emperor in the eye with sticks an' throwin' rocks an' un-armored soldiers at him an' insistin' that ol' emperor say "please an' thank you sir an' may I have some more" an' soppin' up all a' that emperor's oil with the Newnited States Constitooshun an' crammin' it in his pocket an' makin' faces like a monkey!
Hemlockman gave me this comic. It's true! Just up and gave it to me!

Gawd I sho' miss Pogo.
Kelly was pure talent! I hadda give the book to someone who would love it more than I could.
That sure was a nice gift, Hem.
We need Pogo now more than ever.
I believe this is the very comic strip that inspired Dylan to pen "With God on Our Side."
