
The cover artist of that groundbreaking lesbian novel (see next post) is Barye Phillips. Here's a second version he painted. I wonder why. Maybe the eye contact on the original cover was too racey and they had to tone it down. I see the cigarette was not a problem! How times have changed...

A much more boring cover.
When I was a kid I used to help my parents shelve books in their various bookshops. I loved the smell of old pulp (especially the comics). My dad used to have vast stacks of those old paperbacks.
