dough =

Pudgy. Needlessly, annoyingly soft and mushy. I'm not talking about cute. I'm not one of those people who hates cute. I LOVE CUTE.

I hate doughy.

I'll try to re-draw a couple of Everwonderland characters NON-doughy, and we can all vote. But I'll strive to kill the dough in my artwork no matter what the majority decides.

But shoe button eyes, not so much. I'm glad you gave up on the shoe button eyes. It makes people look dead inside.

Shoes have buttons?

I don't know why they call them that, but they are these things:

They're the traditional teddy bear eyes. Maybe shoes DID have buttons, I don't know. But dolls made with these eyes look eerie, but not quite as eerie as those dolls that blink. Marks early work seems to be all over the place with the shoe button eyes.

Shoes had buttons back in the day. Not decorative - for fastening. They also had little button hooks to pull the buttons through the hole, like a shoehorn for buttons. I don't speak from experience - I've just seen them. I have a card of shoe buttons around here somewhere.

The Dough Has Got To Go!

Cute is good, when it's done right.

Walt Kelly knew cute. Nobody could draw cute characters like Walt Kelly.

One of the funniest and cutest strips I ever saw was a Walt Kelly Pogo strip where a tiny little bug eats this HUGE bag of doughnuts. And when the other (bigger) characters ask him how the HAIL he did that, he answers:

"I chewed 'em up real fine."

Ah, those were the days of real comics. The last days. The fading days.
