where was i?

Here's part one of that new old Pumpie comic I wanted to run. It's relevant to an update I'll report when I post part 3 of this 4-part post. Can you stand the SUSPENSE???

The thing about cons:
I can't get into it right now. Too busy. Just want to let eeTeeD know I have not forgotten about it. Or Jed, or whoever brought it up.
***

WE WON!!! Thank you to all who voted! If you did not vote - shame on you. Except you, Monique, co-creator of Scoutmaster Glick. I understand why you had to bail.

Now it's time for Round Two - but let's just skip it. People are obviously voting based on some weird fan loyalty to pop culture and Hungry Hungry Hippo is way ahead.
***

Calling Rick Grimes! Where are you, Rick???
***

Runaway Comic #3 should be back from the printer any day now.
***

A new Come Draw With Me activity is in the works. It will be online with a few other updates to mm.net soon
***

Check out the new Nick Magazine. The one with Justin Timberlake annoyingly on the front cover. The Gag Engineers and the SUPER POWER HERO TEAM are by me and Sculptor Rick.
***

PLUS!!! whatever I'm forgetting, I know there must be something.

Huh, RUNAWAY at last! What's this new Drew With Me thingie? I'll have to indulge again, if you'll let me... but do I get a copy of the last 'draw with me' production? Ever?

Oh, and congrats on winning. I called in some really huge favors to stuff that ballot box for you, Pumpie. Now you really owe me, even more than you owe Ben.

Yay. I swear I truly believe that if only the SPX crowd knew that Grimes existed, they'd call him the bees knees! The guy's just waiting to be rediscovered. He was ahead of his time! I remember those one pagers on the back of a couple of issues of Veitch's The One--as if the The One wasn't weird enough, but somehow The One fit in with the rest of the funky mostly super hero based grooviness coming out at the time. But Grimes, yipes! That shit blew my mind! There was nothing like it. He was just hitting the wrong audience. Maybe he would've had a better chance in Raw. But now, the Raw guys are the new mainstream---sort of. There's a particular story in Taboo involving a character named Fuckley and something about Maybeline that I remember being particularly enthralled by.

Anyway, Mark, I don't know that you have to go into what you have against conventions--travel expense, hotel, mind bendingly long days smiling and signing and sketching by people who really don't get out much for people that really don't get out much who collectively have social skills just shy of sociopathic. Plus there's no guarantee that any of this will increase your visibility in the field, or raise consciousness about your book. Are their statistics? Does it really make any difference at all?

Then there's all that feeling bad. Feeling bad about
all the folks who show you their work and want your "opinion" (but not really). Feeling bad about all of the banal loud, lame, crappy, trashy, ill-concieved, feeble junk that people are trying to sell. Bad that they're selling more of it than you are. Bad and just plain nauseous. By the end of it, I'm so disoriented, It takes me almost a week to get over it. Sure, there's people I haven't seen forever that I get to see again, and that's always nice, but it seriously hurts my brain.

I was only saying, you should capitolize on the TMNT thing while it's hot hot hot! You'd at least be able to pay for your airline tickets with the turtle cash you'd be sure to attain!
