here's that awesome Benchley story
right here
I highly recommend that you at least print it out and read it on paper. I just think reading it "onscreen" will weaken it. Better yet, buy the book, or check it out at the library. This story can be found in "Love Conquers All" and in "The Benchley Roundup".

Here's a link without all the "family, life, america, and benchley"s highlighted: http://books.google.com/books?id=4xPDVQrUdYUC&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_summary_r&cad=0#PPA11,M1
THANKS GREG!
Actually, that link goes to the last page. But I tweaked it again and now the link on jabberous is all cleaned up. TEAMWORK!
This seems like it might be a parody of Faulkner. It reminds me a lot of a book I never finished called "As I Lay Dying" which was excruciating.
So this is my first Benchley story! Recommendations?
It's all good. Most of his output is humorous essays, sprinkled with these parodies/satires like the one we just read. I'm not sure if he ever wrote anything longer than a few pages.
I just keep a few books around the house and read an essay or two from time to time. I find that if I read them too close together I start noticing him using his little bag of tricks and that distracts me from just enjoying the read.
Print it out! What are you? A Luddite?
My mom really like Robert Benchley's work. She had pretty good taste in art and literature.
speaking of recommended reading...
