this is why I do it

A friend just sent me this picture of her son and his Buddy McNutty comic that he is reading for about the zillionth time since I sent it to him a year ago. She "just had to share". She's a writer, so I guess she knows what it's like to toil away in an adobe tower (us starving artists can't afford ivory) and wonder how your readers out there are reacting to your 10% inspiration.* She really warmed my heart by sending me this pic. Can I say that? Did I just blow my cover as a cool detached brooding tortured pouting alternative cartoonist?

You can still order your free copy of Buddy McNutty here if you haven't done it yet.
...

* Hey! That reminds me! A few days ago I was taken to task for my "confusing" blog. It seems that my creative writing attempts leave some people baffled as to what exactly it is that I am trying to say. In THIS CASE (above) I am talking about the 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration it takes to create art.

In THAT CASE (a few days ago), not one but TWO PEOPLE were confused about the FREE mini-comic you can get if you order Runaway Comic #2 from panel to panel. They couldn't figure out if it was just a tiny version of Runaway #2, or if it had different material in it. Never mind the fact that it's FREE, or the fact that who in the world would ever conceive of a tiny version of the same comic as a promotional gimmick! Or the fact that it is clearly explained here and here that it is eight pages of ultra-rare classics and all-new material. (It's a 5.5" x 8.5" mini, so you can easily hide it inside your X-Men comics as you read it and nobody will be the wiser!) For some reason two of my closest "friends" were not only confused about the nature of the mini comic, but actually wrestling with the decision to buy from panel to panel!

So let me make this perfectly clear:

Runaway Comic #2.1, the FREE mini comic you will receive if you order Runaway Comic #2 from panel to panel, is eight pages of ultra-rare classics and all-new material. (It's a 5.5" x 8.5" mini, so you can easily hide it inside your X-Men comics as you read it and nobody will be the wiser!)

You may think I just made this whole story up so I could once again mention Runaway Comic #2.1, the FREE mini comic you will receive if you order Runaway Comic #2 from panel to panel, but I swear to you, this story is all 100% true. Except for the tiny detail I no doubt mis-remembered, but I'm sure jr will hop on here and correct me soundly. But Kathi won't comment on it, because this blog is so confusing she never reads it.

So... You're saying that the free mini is an X-men comic...?

The "Voice of Reason" is mighty confused by your blog!

And for that matter, are you saying that Runaway Comic #2 is going to be all covered with sweat? Or is it just the Buddy McNutty comic that's all covered in sweat? Doesn't sound very sanitary!

And is this your own, genuine, 100% American sweat, or is it produced overseas by Cambodian tots who get paid $3 a month to perspire on your behalf? 'Cause this could affect how much I can get for the Buddy McNutty comic when I post it on eBay! I don't think that "The Adventures Buddy McNutty comic -- 90% foreign-child-labor sweat by volume!!!" is going to get me the Big Bucks on eBay!

(who wouldn't REALLY sell your fine comics on eBay!)
(I hope you didn't REALLY think I would!)
(you didn't think that, DID YOU!?!?)
