New Improved Fred!

Here's old unsatisfactory Fred.

I can't work on Buddy McNutty OR the wacky gross-out cards until I get the go-ahead, so over the weekend I dragged out my children's books re-formatted one and updated it and revised it and completely changed Fred and I hope to start cranking out paintings soon, if I can squeeze any in when the dam breaks. That's right, I said PAINTINGS! The Mighty Marvel Value Stamp Book helped me conquer my fear of painting! Thank you, House of Ideas! EXCELSIOR!

while i was out

Vin Rowe drew a Most Powerful Of All Beings In The Merry Marvel Universe!

Cousin Kirk sent a link to a great Modern Mechanix blog

Emery Calame sent a link to a cool 3D animation studio

Mike Lemos sent yet another of the endless proofs that the Japanese are just plain trippy

anonymous sent an insane rant to a post's comment's section. I debated whether or not I should allow this rant, fearing it may open a spam floodgate or encourage this person. I finally decided to unfuck the universe.

the true maniacal mind

New Michael Hall art!!!

Benny said...

Hey!
Here's a new Michael Hall I got from the Studio By the Tracks benefit, "Art from the Heart."
I love his extensive knowledge of copyright dates.
That old "person" who was so ugly to you about her "precious comic" could take a lesson from Michael!

Me...

I have a million things to say about this, but I only have time for two:

1. I had no idea TED KNIGHT did cartoon voices, until I learned it from Michael Hall's bottomless trough of DC Superhero trivia! But I can just imagine him doing the over-the-top "manly" voice on crappy Saturday morning superhero cartoons! And speaking of Ted Knight, if you don't already have this Ted Knight classic, go get it now.

2. BENNY! I wonder if you could print out a copy of the Super Secret Mystery Mighty Marvel Value Final Stamp page, in color, on good paper, and get MICHAEL HALL to paint a Most Powerful Being on it! Wouldn't that be supremely multi-layered? You could "comission" it! And own the original historic painting! Doesn't the whole idea make your scalp tingle? Gosh, I hope the fact that it's a MARVEL thing does not kill the deal! Seems like Michael is exclusively into DC comics - or am I misremembering that?

3. OK, one more! I just figured out what that weird yellow shape is! It must be a SUBMARINE! (???) Did the cartoon Aquaman live in a Yellow Submarine?

don cornelius head mold

I used to work with a guy named Mark Chapman. Not the one that shot John Lennon. Me and this guy Mark Chapman were talking about Don Cornelius one day and he (Chapman) said Don Cornelius' head looks like it was cast in a mold. "Don Cornelius Head Mold" has been a staple of my humorous lexicon ever since.

FIT IN, FOOL!

reply:
Why so formal?

from Jed:
I hereby officially petition
Eeteed for a hug. As we
embrace, let the hatchet be
buried between our loving
bosoms. Be it of Don Heck,
or Reed Crandall, or that
guy who draws Little Audrey,
I welcome your sometimes
questionable judgment and
taste and cuddle it to my
heart as though it were my own.

Let this hug serve as a
proverbial olive branch, a
parley whereby our ceaseless
wrastle over nerdly
minutiae may ultimately be
resolved through a loving
squeeze. Awww, come
ova' here bubula!

reply:
Why did you send this to ME?
GET A ROOM, YOU TWO!

Lest anyone think they have stumbled into craigslist misc romance m4m, I THINK they are talking about the comments section in this post. Why they are dragging me into it is a mystery. I am not a matchmaker. I just draw comics.

I've always thought that if you hafta splain it, a work of art ain't great. So I'll concede this ain't great, and splain:

That Kirby fly should be a DITKO fly!

this is it, true believer

True believe it or not, I actually have the Mighty Marvel Value Stamp Book, Series B. I can't remember where or how I got the thing, but I remember why. I thought it would be cool to go in and draw my version of all these #%$@# superheroes, of course. Every page was clean as a whistle, no stamps!

That was 15 years ago and this stupid thing is still laying around in my book closet! I figure if I mention it here I'll be forced to draw in it and fill it up, or face the shame of publicly announcing this and then NOT drawing in it and filling it up. I know it's drastic, and I know I really ought to finish blogopera first before I attack a new windmill, but what are you gonna do? Fire me? There's a reason I titled my Big Opus Coffee Table Retrospective That I'll Never Actually Put Together "Focus Challenged" ya know!

Starting next week I'm going to post a #%$@# Marvel Superhero every week until this damn book is full. Maybe two on some weeks. But maybe NONE the 2 weeks I'm gone to Prague.

After that I'll do some more blogopera. I swear! Maybe.
